5 Ways to Boost Literacy Engagement with Grow as you Go!

Teaching kids new skills and fostering a growth mindset can be an exciting journey when you blend tools and activities that spark engagement and curiosity. The Adjectives for a Growth Mindset Playlist is already a powerful resource for introducing children to words like "resilient," "faithful," and "grateful" through music. But when paired with Reading Bands, it becomes an even more dynamic learning experience. Here are five ways Grow as you Go can boost engagement with our resources!

1. Physical Engagement Brings Words to Life

Reading Bands are designed to help kids interact with words physically. As children listen to the songs, they can wear their Reading Bands, each featuring a keyword like “brave” or “adventerous.” By physically engaging with these words, kids connect their movements to the concepts, making them more memorable. For example, while listening to "O-O-Obstinate like a rock so round," kids can hold up their reading band, point to the letter "O", while making other movements that foster this descriptive phrase. This tactile interaction deepens their connection to the word and its meaning.

2. Letter Sound Mastery and Vocabulary Through Repetition

Repetition is a cornerstone of effective learning, and our products and services are all about that. Wearing our reading bands while listening to the songs helps children visually reinforce the key adjectives in the songs and their beginning sounds. As the playlist repeats words like “resilient” or “tenacious,” children can visually identify the beginning sounds on their bands. If they do not find the sound the first time, they have 4-5 other opportunities to listen to other words with that same beginning sound all in the Grow as you Go Letter Order. Subscribe to our email list to find out what that order is or simply check out the Playlist and see how they're grouped. This multi-sensory approach strengthens their ability to recognize, listen, and eventually use these words in their own writing and speech. Pairing the music with Reading Bands also encourages children to match the words they hear with the words they see, creating a bridge between auditory and visual learning.

3. Encouraging Active Literacy Engagement

Kids learn best when they’re actively involved in the process. Let them wiggle let them dance, let them learn. Play games that will get their brains and bodies working congruently. A good way to provide balance to learning and wiggling I often tell my children, which is based on a biblical principle found on time. "I say to them, theres a time to be silly and a time to be still." This is helpful in having our children know what time it is, and with Grow as you Go, we want to find the sweet balance between the two to ensure our children are most engaged!

4. Building Connections Through Everyday Moments

Use learning time as relationship building time and enhance their literacy engagement. If they are excited to engage with you because of the great connection you've fostered, then they will be ever eager to learn from you as well. So whether you're in the car, on your way to the soccer game, or simply waiting in line at the grocery store. Keep kids engaged at all times with our on-the-go literacy resources! Spark up conversations that will build bonds to last a lifetime! Beyond our Youtube playlist, parents and teachers can use the bands to spark conversations about the adjectives in real-world contexts.

For example:

  • After listening to the playlist, ask your child, “When did you feel tenacious today?” or “Can you tell me about a time you were brave like the song describes?”

  • Use the bands during story time to identify characters who demonstrate qualities like resilience or gratitude and to further encourage active listening.

By weaving the words from the playlist into daily conversations and routines, you’re helping children see the relevance of these concepts in their own lives beyond the traditional classroom setting!

5. Fostering Intrinsic Motivation

When we provide our children with a framework for interactions we are giving them structure, but within that structure we can allow for creativity and that is where their individuality sparks! Schedules and rhythms in our day provide the necessary tools for steady growth. One fun way to get our children to build their intrinsic motivation to learn their letter sounds is by making reading bands a part of their daily schedule. I have a chore chart for my children that we work through daily and why not add Reading Bands as a daily task for the list! This will give kids a tangible sense of ownership for their new learning tool, and let them know, "wearing them will help you grow like the beautiful apple trees grow, with steady roots, and daily watering, you'll learn to read one day too, just like your mama!" After mastering one group of letters, they move onto the next! Each band then becomes a badge of accomplishment, a symbol of the growth they’re achieving, similar to the belts received in martial arts! Then as they listen to the playlist in the car, you might find them peeking down at the bands while they learn words like “peaceful” or “curious.” But you know full well they’re not just singing—they’re internalizing values that will guide them in challenges and triumphs alike.

The Perfect Pairing for Growth and Fun

When combined, the Adjectives for a Growth Mindset Playlist and Reading Bands create an interactive, multi-sensory learning experience that encourages curiosity, resilience, and confidence. Music fosters memory, retention and engagement, while Reading Bands add a tactile and visual dimension that reinforces key concepts. Together, they empower children to embrace a growth mindset and build a rich vocabulary they’ll use for a lifetime. So grab your Reading Bands, turn up the playlist, and watch your child’s love for learning and language flourish. With these tools in hand, every moment becomes an opportunity to grow—one small letter and song at a time.
